At RMCD, we provide evaluations for the diagnosis of dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Our evaluation process is tailored to the needs of the individual, but typically includes a diagnostic interview and assessment of the specific skills challenged by specific areas of learning. For children with suspected dyslexia, we assess all reading skill areas (comprehension, fluency, and decoding), phonological processing skills, and spelling. When there are more extensive concerns, or the exact nature of a child’s learning issues is less clear, we offer comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations that also include assessment of cognitive skills using the most current and valid instruments, screening of social emotional concerns, evaluation of attention skills if warranted, and thorough evaluation of all areas of academic functioning. Through an initial screening phone call or during our initial meeting, we will work with you to clarify the best approach to answer your unique learning concerns. After completing the assessment we will provide you with a report that includes a thorough review of diagnostic issues, conceptual formulation, and extensive treatment strategies to support functioning in home and school environments. We are available to provide ongoing support following the assessment process through therapy, advocacy, and consultation, as warranted.
